You Saved the Course. Have You Started It?
Somewhere on your phone is a screenshot of a course you were really excited about.
You might even remember thinking, “This is exactly what I need.” You saved the link, sent it to a friend, and promised yourself you’d start over the weekend.
That was three weekends ago.
If this sounds familiar, you’re in good company. It’s easy to get excited about learning something new. Finding room for it between work, bills, family responsibilities, and being tired? That’s where things get complicated.
Sometimes, there’s a little fear mixed in too. What if I don’t understand it? What if I start and can’t keep up?
So the link stays saved, waiting for a quieter week.
But you can give yourself a smaller starting point.
Make the first step almost embarrassingly small.
Forget finishing the course for a moment. Open it. Watch the first lesson. If you have ten minutes, give it ten minutes.
You don’t need a perfect study setup or a three-hour window to begin.
Give learning an actual place in your week.
“I’ll do it when I’m free” is easy to postpone. Try something specific: “On Tuesday after dinner, I’ll spend 20 minutes on one lesson.”
Choose a time that works with the life you have, including the busy parts.
Try one thing you learn.
Create a simple spreadsheet. Draft a sample social media post. Practice organising a calendar. A small task gives you a chance to use the lesson and notice where you need help.
At AYITSSI, we support young Africans in building digital skills through training, mentorship, and career support. We understand that getting started can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re figuring it out alone.
If you already have a course saved, open that link today. Give the first lesson ten minutes and see how you get on.
